Never Leave

Music and Lyrics by David

Vocal, Keyboards and Instrumental Track by David

About the Song:
This song was written and recorded in the early 1990’s. The lyric was inspired by Shakespeare’s Othello and its themes of jealousy and deceit. The intensity is tempered however with a measure of hope and resolve – I hope! I used the E-mu Proteus 1 to assign all the sounds you hear on the track. This module was all the rage in the day and I hope you will agree that the sounds are cool – if not retro – to hear again today. And of course – do I need to say it?! – Thank you Todd Rundgren for the musical inspiration! While there is a shorter mix of this song somewhere (mine was lost with so much else in a fire in 2007), I chose to include the longer ending – the palette-cleanser as my friend the magical recording engineer Corey DeRushia calls it. Yeah baby!

lyrics

Lyrics:

Love

Now we live as vines in the sun

Well-intertwined

Grafted seamlessly

Our beginnings one

Grow strong within this bond

No life without you here

No life beyond

I thought that you’d never leave

Didn’t you need me too?

And now I don’t know what to believe

I’m not strong with you gone

Who?

Who was it tried to cut us apart?

Who told the lie

And led you to believe I deceived your heart?

I clutch my golden band

I feel you slipping down and through my hands

I thought that you’d never leave…

I don’t know what to believe…

We

We try to find firm ground while it rains

Confused in part

By the frightened thoughts coursing through our veins

I see behind your eyes

The words I fear one day you’ll vocalize

You’ll say

I thought that you’d never leave

Didn’t you love me too?

And now I don’t know what to believe

I’m not strong with you gone

If the child in us is wise

He knows that green-eyed monsters tell lies

It’s all disguise!

What is said and what comes between

May fester and grow jealous green

So let us keep

Our hearts swept clean

Our souls pristine

Our minds serene

No jealous green!
